Perhaps there has been a change to how the Guide to the Scriptures defines "intelligence(s)":

(1) It is the light of truth which gives life and light to all things in the universe. It has always existed. (2) The word intelligences may also refer to spirit children of God. (3) The scriptures also may speak of intelligence as referring to the spirit element that existed before we were begotten as spirit children.

Whether some of the details of Skousen's talk are not 100% true it is irrelevant to me because his main ideas are clearly true. He has brought his very best thinking to us and given us something to ponder and pray about. I consider it a great and sincere gift. I am truly grateful for his thoughts as no other commentary anywhere has helped me wrap my mind around the Atonement better than this one talk. To me, it is clear that Skousen has made great effort to base all his thoughts in scripture, and is clearly a truth seeker. He lived in my neighborhood and I learned from his wife that he has been throughout his life a voracious student of scripture. My impression is that he has been a very humble one as well; familiar with the promptings and communication of the spirit.

With that said, he is not God's spokesperson on the earth, and it is my own duty to pursue and confirm truth through the spirit for myself, in the fashion that I believe Skousen did.

Regardless of the exact details, it still describes a "mercy overcoming justice" story that the reader can agree with. Whether it is a true story or a parable, the idea is still conveyed and understood.

Well, I just finished composing a comment a minute ago and then lost it when I clicked on the trackback URI link above, thinking it would open in another page. Oh well.. I can't quite remember what I said the first time, but I just wanted to thank you for sharing this great story. I just found your blog today and was struck with how similar it is to mine. Constitution, freedom, some conspiracy stuff, etc.
I hope you don't mind, but just in case your site ever goes away, I went ahead and copied your post to my blog with a link back to yours. I just wanted to have it available on my own blog so I'm sure to have it available.
I'll definitely be stopping by to read a few more of your posts.
If you're interested you can check my blog out here -> http://www.brintech.net/blog

Thanks again!
